KISS TODD
Pop art has always fascinated me and often brings me back to my childhood. I used to spend days reading my Tintin et Milou comics and drawing my own scetches. However, I was not as talented as Hergé, nor did I have his incredible imagination to imitate his comics. Also Roy Lichtenstein was always one of my favourite artists. His artwork perfectly describes the intention of the pop movement: With an ironic undertone, everyday things become gaudy art. In precisely painted pictures, he overemphasized the grid points and ironically accentuated the snapshots with speech bubbles and onomatopoeia. When I saw this 20-meter-long sprayed wall in the artists' quarter of Brooklyn, I was so fascinated that I wanted to take small sections of the large picture apart and create my own picture from them.
