THE OVC SUPPORT SERIES.

 

The OVC Support (Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support), led by Béatrice Dolder from Basel, enables many orphans and half-orphans in Zambia to attend school by paying their school fees. For this project, the Swiss foundation "Basler Förderverein für medizinische Zusammenarbeit" works together with Mr. Jacob Chanda, the local person in charge. As a former teacher, Mr. Chanda also works for the organisation "Home Based Care" (HBC) and cares for sick people at home. In doing so, he repeatedly gets to know young people who, because of the illness or death of one or both of their parents, they no longer have the the opportunity to go to school. These young people often live with relatives, in so-called "large extended families", where there is no money for school fees. Thanks to financial support, many of these adolescents are now able to get a school education. This project was produced in collaboration with the Swiss foundation "Basler Förderverein für medizinische Zusammenarbeit" and the OVC-Support Project.
